What is the difference between wet-mix shotcrete and dry-mix (gunite)?

Wet-mix shotcrete (which Omega Ready Mix provides) has all ingredients, including water, thoroughly mixed before entering the delivery hose and being pumped to the nozzle. Dry-mix (often called gunite) sends dry ingredients through the hose, with water added by the operator at the nozzle. Wet-mix generally offers better quality control, consistent water-to-cement ratios, higher production rates, and significantly less jobsite dust.

Why is volumetric mixing better for shotcrete?

Shotcrete requires a very specific, consistent slump to flow through the pump but still adhere perfectly to vertical surfaces without sagging. Volumetric mixers allow the operator to monitor and adjust the mix in real-time, ensuring perfect consistency. Additionally, shotcrete application can be meticulous work; with volumetric mixing, there's no risk of a load "going off" or getting too hot while waiting for the nozzleman to finish detailing a section.
