Section 003 · Technology

Volumetric Concrete Trucks

Flowable fill by Omega Ready Mix is delivered and placed using volumetric concrete trucks equipped with special blending augers. This allows for accurate measurement and precise mixing of all ingredients on-site.

This technology eliminates the traditional challenges of backfill work — no more waiting, no wasted concrete, and consistent quality throughout your entire project.

Rather than being mixed at the cement factory, materials are loaded into the truck and blended on-site. The mixture and pump discharge rate can be regulated for maximum control — an ideal solution for any flowable fill project.

// Feature 001

Accurate Measurement

Precise weighing of all ingredients for consistent mix quality.

// Feature 002

On-Site Blending

Fresh mixing at your location for optimal workability.

// Feature 003

Controlled Discharge

Regulated pump rate for precise placement control.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about flowable fill and volumetric delivery.

Flowable fill — also known as Controlled Low-Strength Material (CLSM) — is a self-leveling, self-compacting cementitious slurry used as an alternative to compacted soil or granular backfill. It flows into place under gravity, fills voids completely, and hardens to a stable, low-strength material.

Typical strength ranges from 0.3 to 2.0 MPa, low enough to remain excavatable for future access to underground utilities.

No. While both contain cement, aggregate, and water, flowable fill is engineered to be much weaker and more fluid than structural concrete. It's designed to flow like a thick liquid, self-compact without vibration, and set into a stable but excavatable material.

Structural concrete typically reaches 20-40+ MPa. Flowable fill stays below 2 MPa so it can be dug out later with standard equipment.

Flowable fill is used wherever traditional backfill would be slow, difficult, or unreliable. Common applications include utility trench backfill, filling around manholes and catch basins, annular space fill around pipes and tunnels, bridge abutment backfill, roadway subbase repair, void filling for abandoned wells and tanks, and MSE/retaining wall backfill.

It's especially valuable in narrow trenches or tight spaces where compaction equipment can't reach.

Yes — when the mix is designed for excavatability. Our standard flowable fill mixes stay below 1 MPa compressive strength, which allows removal with standard excavation equipment (backhoe, excavator) without needing jackhammers or specialized breakers.

For applications requiring future access to buried utilities, we recommend the excavatable grade specifically.

Volumetric trucks mix materials fresh on-site, giving you three critical advantages for flowable fill work: (1) exact volume — produce only what you need, no waste, no minimum-load charges; (2) adjustable mix — change strength or flowability mid-pour as the job requires; (3) fresh consistency — no drying or slump loss during transport.

Traditional ready-mix trucks force you to commit to a fixed load and pour before it hardens. Volumetric mixing removes both constraints.
